MOST TARGETED VEHICLES AND MOTORCYCLES IN MAY
This month’s recovery data covered a wide range of makes and models:
Honda topped the list as the most stolen brand, with the TRX quad range, NSS scooters, CB650R and CBR1000SP among those recovered. Yamaha followed closely, with the MT-09SP, YZF-R7 and NMAX 125 all featuring, while BMW completed the top three with multiple R1250 GS and S1000 models recovered across the UK.
Among cars and commercial vehicles, Lexus featured prominently – including a £85,000 Lexus LM 350H recovered in London. A Fiat Swift Edge motorhome worth £52,000 was recovered in Nottinghamshire, and a Doosan crawler digger was recovered in South Wales alongside a Knott trailer.
The data reflects how criminals continue targeting both high-volume commuter bikes and high-value prestige and commercial assets.
NIGHTTIME THEFTS ACCOUNT FOR OVER HALF OF MAY INCIDENTS
Using a daytime window of 6am to 5:59pm and nighttime from 6pm to 5:59am, 55% of combined vehicle and motorcycle thefts in May took place at night. The remaining 45% during daylight hours is still a significant proportion – a clear sign that thieves are not waiting for the cover of darkness. Whether it’s a scooter parked outside a station or a prestige car on a residential street, opportunistic and planned thefts are happening at all hours.
WHERE THEFTS OCCURRED IN MAY
May’s data paints a clear picture: vehicle and motorcycle theft is not a regional issue – it’s a national one, with incidents recorded from the Scottish border to the south coast.
Key theft areas in the North:
Preston, Lancashire featured prominently, with two Honda quad bikes stolen from a farm in the same incident. Sheffield, South Yorkshire saw a Land Rover Discovery taken from an industrial estate, while Leeds, West Yorkshire recorded the theft of a Volkswagen Transporter from a residential street.
Key theft areas in the South:
London was the most active area across both datasets, with motorcycle and vehicle thefts recorded across Richmond, Acton, Clapham, Sutton, Harrow, Wandsworth and East London. Hampshire saw multiple motorcycle thefts, including a BMW R1300 RSE in Aldershot and a Honda TRX420 in Petersfield. East Sussex recorded thefts around Seaford and Brighton, with a Yamaha MT-09 and Yamaha YZF R1 both targeted during the month.
